DIAMANTINO ROMEIRINHA
Material: Tabua and Cane
Romeirinha makes baskets and chairs out of tabua and rope. Tabua is the stem of a plant that grows near lakes and freshwater streams. A sweet to affable man with a sublime technique that can only be achieved with years of work.
JOÃO FLORÊNCIO
Material: Esparte
João Florêncio who has been working with esparto since he was 17 years old. He claims that esparto is work for men due to the effort it requires throughout the different stages of the process. Wild esparto is harvested between August and September, allowed to dry, soaked and only then can it be worked.
JOSÉ AMENDOEIRA
Material: Wicker
Amendoeira has been working with basketwork for several years. Basketry is an ancient Algarve technique that results from the weaving of wickerwork. The lampshade has an embroidered-type finish, a technique applied to baskets that involves talent and dedication.
DUARDINA
Material: Palm-leaves
Duardina dedicates its time to the palm-leaves work. This secular art known as Empreita Algarvia, the art of braiding the Algarve palm, is a family tradition it has always been present throughout his life.
JORGE NEVES
Material: Metal
The locksmith Neves has a great passion for the art of metal. Being very perfectionist in the work he performs, he usually introduces new details that lead to the improvement of the initially designed pieces.
GRACIETA
Material: Palm-leaves
Gracieta started working the palm at the age of 6, learning from her mother and sisters. A lifelong primary school teacher, she is now retired in Boliqueime and dedicates her free time to creating baskets with different patterns and colors.
